Introduction to Nutrition in Combat Sports

In earlier levels of the UFCPI Performance Nutrition courses, we covered basic nutrition and biochemistry principles. We also detailed how to apply nutrition in different sporting contexts based on the physiological demands of the sport. We also talked about how individual differences and psychology can impact how to work athletes. In this course we bring it all together in way which enables specialization when working with combat sports athletes. The first step is to understand broadly what combat sports are, what are key characteristics of these sports and the athletes, and how does this influence nutrition prescription and the methods required to optimize outcomes. Module 1 will provide and overview of combat sports, Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, periodization and training phases, as well as the importance of- and how to- build rapport within this population.
