Video: Advanced Performance Nutrition Course Introduction (2 min)

Module 1 Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the physiological requirements, sporting demands, similarities and differences of combat sports
  2. Understand the common nutrition concerns in combat sports
  3. Identify the different training phases and appropriate nutrition periodization in combat sports
  4. Understand common psychological considerations and the concept of buy-in

Module 2 Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand body composition and weight division nutrition requirements
  2. Develop an understanding of general training vs fat loss nutrition requirements
  3. Be able to identify suitable-, and devise appropriate supplement protocols
  4. Understand hydration requirements in combat sport athletes

Module 3 Learning Outcomes:

  1. Develop an in depth understanding of acute weight loss nutrition
  2. Identify appropriate magnitudes of acute weight manipulation and water loss
  3. Be able to set athletes up for fight week success
  4. Program post-weigh in recovery nutrition for athletes in a variety of contexts
  5. Understand the importance of the post competition period, and devise strategies to mitigate excessive weight gain

Module 4 Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply performance nutrition principles to real-world scenarios
  2. Understand how theoretical principles are adjusted to promote athlete goals in a variety of different sports/ athletes

Module 5: Interdisciplinary Teamwork

  1. Understand how to act as an interdisciplinary team to promote performance enhancement with individual athletes.
  2. Understand how to develop effective interdisciplinary solutions in a group/team-based setting.
