MODULE 1 INTRO

Video: Intermediate Performance Nutrition: Module 1 Intro (1 min)

Introduction

This first module will lay down basic nutrition science principles as well as touch on the UFCPI’s approach to diet prescription. This is foundational knowledge and is, in part, a review of the UFCPI Level 1 – Performance Nutrition Certification – and each topic will be expanded upon in the later modules of this certification. Having a solid grasp on the Module 1 concepts is crucial before moving onto the latter modules, as the application of these principles is discussed. As such, it is expected at the end of this module, the reader understands the basics of energy balance and fuel substrates, macro- and micro-nutrients, hydration, food groups, and how to design a diet suitable to varied athlete types.
