3.0 SPECIALIST SPORTS SCIENCE: MODULE 3

Testing and Profiling

In modules 1 and 2 we detailed the specific demands and underlying physiology of combat sports. We also described the desirable adaptations of different systems and why they are important. Just as important as understanding what is going on inside the body of an athlete, is how to test this in order to compare to benchmarks and track improvements (or decrements for that matter). In this module we will provide an overview of testing in combat sports, as well as how to select the right test. Will first look at neuromuscular, cardiorespiratory, and energy systems testing, before looking at data collection relating to training load and sleep. This will be the last theoretical module before moving onto the application of these principles in module 4.
