MODULE 3 INTRO
Introduction
In the previous two modules we covered fundamental nutrition science and biochemistry in humans, as well as applying this science in the real world. In this module we will take a look at the impact of sports training and competition on nutrition requirements, and how using our understanding of nutrition and exercise science, we can better prescribe optimal nutrition for active persons and athletes. While athletes may have many goals, detailing them all here is beyond the scope of the current course. We will instead look at several of the overarching sports nutrition principles which provide the groundwork for future study in more advanced courses. We will look at endurance and team sports as they are perhaps the most commonly practiced, and provide good examples of some key concepts, and then focus a little on weight sensitive and aesthetic sports (such as MMA, gymnastics etc.). We will also discuss the concept of nutrition periodization and finish up with an introduction to dietary supplements.
