Level 2: Intermediate Sports Medicine Module Outline

Module 1 Learning Outcomes:


  1. Explain the principles of sports medicine and the roles and responsibilities of a sports medicine team.
  2. Define various types of sports injuries and their impact on pain and function.
  3. Describe the fundamentals of immediate care assessment and orthopedic assessment.
  4. Identify acute management strategies for sports injuries, including wound treatment and infection prevention.
  5. Understand the basic principles of rehabilitation and their application in sports medicine.

Module 2 Learning Outcomes:


  1. Outline the components of an orthopedic assessment, including subjective and objective assessments.
  2. Explain the purpose and methodology of special tests and functional tests in sports medicine.
  3. Discuss the importance of evidence-based practice in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries.
  4. Describe the principles and techniques for assessing range of motion, strength, and neurological function.
  5. Identify the key elements of a comprehensive clinical orthopedic assessment.

Module 3 Learning Outcomes:


  1. Explain the phases of tissue healing and the appropriate rehabilitation strategies for each phase.

Module 4 Learning Outcomes:


  1. Apply knowledge from previous modules to assess and manage upper and lower limb injuries in case studies.
  2. Develop rehabilitation plans for athletes with labral injuries, high ankle sprains, and post-operative rehabilitation.
  3. Explain the principles of post-operative rehabilitation and the phases involved.
  4. Identify the criteria for return-to-sport testing and the importance of these tests in the rehabilitation process.
