OUTLINE OF SPECIALIST SPORTS MEDICINE COURSE MODULES
Video: Specialist Sports Medicine Course Introduction (3 min)
Module 1 Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the components of- and integration of the- sports medicine team in a combat sports setting
- Understand the physiological requirements, sporting demands, similarities and differences of combat sports, and how this impacts injuries
- Identify the relevance of psychology in the injured athlete
Module 2 Learning Outcomes:
- Be able to identify key components of a sports injury and illness surveillance system
- Identify appropriate diagnostic tests for combat sport athletes
- Understand the importance of strength profiling
- Be able to conduct concussion screening
- Gain an appreciation of the relevance of psychological readiness
Module 3 Learning Outcomes:
- Identify key components of injury mitigation
- Understand the measurement- and utility- of training load in combat sports
- Identify and utilize appropriate warm ups and therapeutic modalities
Module 4 Learning Objectives:
- Apply sports medicine principles to real-world scenarios
- Understand how theoretical principles are adjusted to promote athlete goals in a variety of different injuries
Module 5: Interdisciplinary Teamwork
- Understand how to act as an interdisciplinary team to promote performance enhancement with individual athletes.
- Understand how to develop effective interdisciplinary solutions in a group/team-based setting.
