MODULE 1 INTRO
Video: Intermediate Strength and Conditioning: Module 1 Intro (1 min)
Introduction
This first module will lay down essential strength & conditioning principles and touch on the UFCPI’s approach to training prescription. This is foundational knowledge and is, in part, a review of the UFCPI Level 1 – Strength & Conditioning Certification – and each topic will be expanded upon in the later modules of this certification. A solid grasp of the module 1 concepts is crucial before moving on to the latter modules, as the application of these principles is discussed. As such, it is expected that, at the end of this module, the reader will understand the basics discussed here. In this module, we will cover aspects related to training, such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, training principles and periodization, traditional and Olympic lifts, energy system development, and recovery.
Learning Objectives
Module 1: Fundamental Strength and Conditioning Concepts
- Understand the fundamental terminology and concepts of biomechanics, including vectors, scalars, impulse, and force, as they apply to athletic movements and performance.
- Explain Newton’s Laws of Motion and their relevance to strength and conditioning, particularly in the context of exercise and injury prevention.
- Describe the basic anatomy and functions of the skeletal and muscular systems and their roles in movement and physical performance.
- Identify and apply key training principles, such as the Stimulus-Fatigue-Recovery-Adaptation theory and the Fitness-Fatigue paradigm, to create effective strength and conditioning programs.
- Design and implement a comprehensive movement preparation routine that incorporates mobilization, dynamic stretching, and activation techniques to optimize athletic performance and reduce injury risk.
